IT AINT EASY April 28, 2008

I honestly forgot how difficult it can be to go skateboarding. This weekend the whole team met up so we could get crackin on a little project we have in the works. Pedro had big plans for the infamous Carlsbad Gap, but as you can see, the pigs weren't with it.

Larelle's grill was certainly the catalyst that prompted the cops to ask him three times about prior arrests.

Kevin Booker had a serious tooth ache.

Little Nick Tucker had to make sure the fit was fresh. Nick doesn't drink by the way. Isn't he precious?

Quick stop at Lola's, an apparent monument to Cbad locals...

Then it was off this spot where you can flip a lunch table down a 5 stair and skate the rails on the bottom. Larelle was all over this one, but we got booted before we even set up.

This spot had serious potential, but the ground was sandy ass a mother fucker and the ledges had been freshly sanblasted. Zero for three at this point...

Finally we ran into some luck at this handrail. This beast is the largest threat to testicles I've ever seen. It's tall as shit and it's super mellow. Dom got down, Drod got super down, and Biz gave Pedro the MVP for pulling an unexpected heater. That my friends was a wrap. Stay tuned for the fruits of this weekend's labor.

DON'T PANIC April 14, 2008

The good people over at Sabre Vision had their big opening Friday night of their new project they have been working on, Dont Panic. Dont Panic is the name of their new retail located on 32nd Street in Newport Beach. So Allen, Michael, Ricky, Wally and myself went to check it out. I was really excited to see the finished product of the store because Brooke and Tabitha (Sabre) were telling us about their crazy ideas. Let the pictures speak for themselves, and dont forget to check out the new store!

MAKING THE BRAND April 02, 2008

whoshungry.jpg

You want to know who El Presidente De Orisue right? Don't ya?...

doaner01.jpg

What is your name, age and position at Orisue?
Allen Doan, President. I am 23 years old.

OK, stopping right there... Orisue has been around for how long now?

Orisue has been in business since January 2006.

So you were 20-21 when this company began, which in any industry is pretty fucking young. Did other brands take your lunch money, challenge you to fights after tradeshows, black ball accounts or do other acts of random jerkness?

Hell yes. Starting a business at that age, it's hard to get respect from anyone in any industry. Ironically, 99% of the hater brands were out of commission a season later.

So what do you attribute the success of Orisue thus far to? Or is it even successful in your own eyes?
Orisue is far from being successful in my eyes. Comparing us to all those large companies, it's hard to deem what we do as a success. If you consider what we've accomplished so far as “success”, then I would attribute that to our hard work and dedication.

doaner02.jpg

When I first met you and Michael Wang, all I could say to myself was "Holy Fuck". Do you get that reaction from a lot of people? You two are really fucking weird.
I don't know what you're talking about (laughs). But yes... People have said we're quite odd. It's not even us though... it's the whole company. I hear it a lot, "Man, those Orisue guys!!"

When we first met up, we went and got some food and you ordered a glass of wine. I thought that was weird. It's like exactly the opposite of ordering a Sam Adams and trying to look cool. It's like your blatantly and successfully trying to look uncool, but not the type of uncool that ends up making you look cool... You know?

Did I really order wine? I don't remember what I ordered, but I really like wine. I like getting drunk and wine was my poison that evening. What do you want from me?

Do you feel like you might be inspiring other Koreans to apply themselves to business?

I'm not Korean, but I would hope I inspire anyone that's young or old to do something with themselves… I'm Vietnamese by the way.

doaner03.jpg

Explain some of the day to day operations inside the office. It baffles me that business takes place in there, considering that litttle gay dog is running around, there are 5 interns for every one man position, and Michael Chang is usually runnning a muck. Does legitimate business really happen?
Sure it does... We’re all young individuals apart of this company and that’s ingrained in our culture. Having fun, yet working hard is important. I get up everyday at 7am and am in the office by 8am. By my example, the majority of our team gets in shortly after me and a lot stay later working. After 5pm is when the bottles pop, and smoke is in the air.

Who is the most annoying person in the office?... You have to say a name, and you cant say the little gay dog.
I'd have to say I am. When people don't get their work done I can sure be annoying... either that or violent.

I was reading an interview on the internets, I believe Michael Hung was the subject… There was something about Orisue formerly being a non profit? Can you explain that?

It was a cute idea Mike had a long time ago that was quickly crushed by the REALITY OF BEING BROKE!

It seems like a lot of Mike’s ideas are cute, but don't really make sense in the real world. Is this the case with most designers?
I think all designers have tons of crazy ideas that will probably never make sense in the real world, but that's their job. It just takes one great idea out of many bad ideas to make something a success.

INV.jpg

If you could turn on the TV right now and see any celebrity wearing an Orisue shirt, who would it be?
Barack Obama.

You openly voting for Obama?
YES. Are you registered to vote?

Any final words for the fans of Orisue, Koreans, Brazilians or Michael Chang?

ORISUE IS FOR THE HUNGRY.
